The Devil

Through the ebbing light
And as the ashes fall,
A deafening heartbeat,
Begins to crawl.

The shadows become darker
As hands that beckon grow,
The pallid skin of my beloved,
And of my greatest foe.

Bleeds into the oblivion,
Of an unknown world,
The gleaming blade of Destiny,
From the sallow hand, unfurled.

With searching eyes, I gaze
Into the depths of his own,
With a luminous smile,
He stands up from his throne.

He takes my hand in his
And guides me down the path,
Forgotten souls and evil imps,
Glower at me with pure wrath.

I smile serenely at them
Knowing of our fates,
We will never be allowed,
Through those pearly gates.

As I take my Destiny
Within my trembling hands,
I give into the eternal darkness,
And become queen of these desolate lands.

With a contented sigh
Around me, the spirits revel,
I close my emerald eyes and listen,
To the whispering wings of The Devil.
